social media

i have my reasons why i´m NOT at facebook or twitter. and if you pin my work on pinterest, please make sure to link it back to me by taking the button on my side: that will bring you to my board with all my art-links. thanks for respecting that.

i consider my blog to be my "artistic diary" - so i can recap what i made and which influences i got (exhibitions etc).

currently i try to publish frequently once in a week (mondays/tuesdays mostly)

People with a Google+ account: please leave a direct blog link, otherwise i can´t visit you.

black, white and red

digital collage with various elements from scrapbookgraphics,
black background from shadowhouse.
i will be out of town for a stamping retreat for the rest of the week.
like every time: the challenge of packing... what do i want to work on for four days?
maybe eraser stamp carving, stitching and working on the leaves...
stamping some cards for a benefit purpose...
i will take the surprise road and will soak inspiration from my stamping friends there...
see you on monday, i suppose...

leaves are falling...

Leaves were falling, just like embers,
In colors red and gold, they set us on fire
Burning just like moonbeams in our eyes.

(lyrics from "killing the blues"/ robert plant & alison krauss)

sunny days in late autumn - what a gift! t-shirt temperatures, the sun is luring me to stroll around in the neighbourhood with my camera and a basket to collect some leaves.

of course i can not conserve the whole brightness of these leaves, but i try to save some of them for future projects.
they might become book-envelopes or parts of fabric collages or whatever...
i will enhance them with stitching (machine or/and hand), at least that´s my plan now.

my "recipe" is easy: sandwich the leaves between layers of vliesofix (that is the german term, i think that is "wonder-under" in other countries?), covered with organza. bottom layer is cotton. don´t forget the parchment paper when ironing!
i´m not sure if they will keep the color over time or brown a bit... will see...

by the light of the moon

theme of the current three-muses-challenge...

background from deviantart, ghosts from scrapbookgraphics (sussieM: witching hour),
layered with black magic textures from shadowhouse -
and then i transformed the "o"s in the text into little moons;)

halloweeny christmas

after a lot of cut&glue work recently (which i really enjoy) i wanted to try whether i had forgotten all about photo editing/ digital collaging. hence this postcard:

SPA suggests "halloween with a christmas twist":
on an orange (> take a word - challenge) background i placed a graveyard cross, inverted two snowmen into black, gave them santa caps and added a frame of black snowflakes. the clipart santa sleigh was constructed with bats instead of reindeers.

three-muses-challenge: message in a bottle

"message in a bottle" (lyrics: police) reminded me of an old blog entry of me...
i had found some ceramics of jonathan adler called "apothecary of emotion", which i thought was an ingenious idea
(not sure if they are still available, couldn´t find them in the current catalogue)

wouldn´t it be great to be able to store away bad emotions in a well closed jar, or get out some joy in the moment you need it?
(still thinking about to make some real emotion-jars and fill them with bits of paper/writing...)

i made the jars by photoediting (note to self: learn how to distort the labels, so they look more realistic...)
stenciled the words
background stamp old script by judi-kins
thistle stencil by michelle ward
foam stamp on the edges made with tim holtz/sizzix die

take-a-word: creepy

goin´ with mike oldfields shadow on the wall in this spread.

i made a stencil/mask from an enlarged photo of the movie nosferatu,
the large danger sign is stamped with text from rubberbabybuggybumpers.
stencils from crafter´s workshop (diamonds and numbers),
frame stamping with a foam stamp cut from a tim holtz/sizzix die.
large alpha from heindesign.

this is one of the spreads where i think "should i add more?", but then i couldn´t imagine what and so i call it done (at least for the moment;))

three-muses-challenge: rain / umbrella

the song i chose for this braille spread is from creedence clearwater revival:
who´ll stop the rain
(the actual colors are more black/purple than the photo took it)

the torn picture is glued on as pockets...
the stripes are bound to decorative yarn strips and glued on at the top

finally found this tim holtz umbrella man among my clearstamps.
big alpha from heindesign.

take-a-word: australia

this is a song for marie, our aussie challenge host.
i found the kookaburra in wikipedia, the children´s song is googled.

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
merry, merry king of the bush is he.
Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra,
gay your life must be.

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
eating all the gumdrops he can see.
Stop, Kookaburra, stop, Kookaburra,
leave some there for me!
